Word to HTML Converter

Turn a .docx into HTML you can actually paste into a CMS. No MsoNormal classes, no <o:p> tags, no fixed page widths — just semantic headings, lists, tables and links.

Convert Word to HTML Instantly
Upload Word document

Drag and drop a .docx, .docm, .dotx or .dotm file here

or click to browse — up to 20 MB on desktop, 10 MB on mobile

No file selected

What you get
  • Semantic HTML — headings, paragraphs, lists, tables and links, not styled divs.
  • A live preview plus a source tab so you can check the exact markup before copying.
  • A complete .html file with readable embedded CSS when you download.
  • No Word classes — MsoNormal, mso- styles and conditional comments are stripped.

Images are replaced with a placeholder image so their position is preserved without embedding the binary. Fonts, colours and page breaks are intentionally dropped.

Generated HTML
Drop a .docx file to see the rendered HTML here.

The .docx is parsed locally. Nothing is uploaded, and the HTML is generated in this tab.

Ready

The basics

What is Word to HTML conversion?

Word stores a document as layout instructions: fonts, page sizes, spacing and Microsoft-specific classes. A web page needs the opposite — semantic structure that inherits the site's own styles. This converter reads the .docx XML and rebuilds what the document says, not how it looked on paper.

Headings become real h1–h6 elements, lists become ul and ol, tables keep their rows and merged columns, and hyperlinks stay clickable. The output is UTF-8, so curly quotes and em dashes survive instead of turning into  or ’.

Best for workflows like:

  • • Pasting a Word draft into WordPress, Webflow or a custom CMS
  • • Turning a report into a web page or knowledge-base article
  • • Moving documentation from Word into a docs site
  • • Creating clean HTML for an email template or landing page
  • • Archiving a document as a lightweight, readable web page

Three steps

How to convert Word to HTML

1

Drop the .docx

Drag a .docx, .docm, .dotx or .dotm file into the upload area, or click to browse. It is read locally — there is no upload step.

2

Check the preview and source

Switch between the rendered preview and the HTML tab to confirm headings, tables and links before you copy anything.

3

Copy or download

Copy the fragment into a CMS field, or download a complete .html file with embedded styles that opens in any browser.

What comes out

How each Word element converts

The mapping is deliberately structural. Anything that only describes print layout is dropped.

Why Word To

Why use this Word to HTML converter

Built for the moment a document has to become web content without a cleanup pass.

No Microsoft markup

The output has no MsoNormal classes, no tags and no conditional comments to delete by hand.

Readable structure

Headings, lists and tables are semantic, so a CMS, a search engine and a screen reader can all understand them.

Private by default

Unpublished drafts and internal documents are parsed in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.

Preview before copy

See the rendered result and the exact source side by side, then copy only what you need.

Answers

Word to HTML FAQ

Is this Word to HTML converter free?

Yes. There is no account, watermark or per-file limit.

Is my Word document uploaded anywhere?

No. The .docx is unzipped and parsed inside your browser tab; nothing is uploaded or stored.

Does the conversion keep formatting?

Headings, bold and italic, lists, tables and links are kept as semantic HTML. Fonts, colours and paragraph spacing are dropped on purpose so your own stylesheet controls the look.

Why is Word's own HTML export so messy?

Word's Save as Web Page mode preserves the print layout. Every paragraph gets a MsoNormal class and fixed dimensions, which then fight your site's CSS.

Can I paste the HTML into WordPress or Shopify?

Yes. The output has no fixed widths and no Word-specific classes, so it inherits the theme's styling instead of overriding it.

What happens to images?

Images become an image tag pointing at a placeholder image, so their position is preserved without embedding the original file. Replace the src with your own image URL after pasting.

What is the difference between the preview and the download?

The preview shows the body fragment. The .html download wraps the same content in a complete document with a charset, title and a small readable stylesheet.

What is the file size limit?

Up to 20 MB on desktop and 10 MB on mobile. Very large documents take longer because the whole file is parsed on your device.
